All the news since the site began!
Scroll down to see all the news I ever posted on this site. I know it's slow, but if you think this is slow, you should have seen the old one! This one is lightning compared to that one. By the way, if you want to see what ever happened to the old one, just see for yourself. It's quite amusing. Some of these images may appear to be "broken" (there is no image but a little red X or torn piece of paper or some other obnoxious little icon). Well, relax. They're NOT broken. I can assure you of that. I personally put up each article individually and made sure it was working before I moved on to the next one. If they appear to be broken, just click the right mouse button over the image and click on Show Picture, or just click the image to view the full sized version. If you're a Mac user you'll have to click the image or just do some crazy drag-and-drop thing of which I have no knowledge.

August 2000
TORN posted some new pics of Sam coming home to his daughter Elanor. Here are two larger versions.
Joel Tobeck has been cast as young Smeagol. Does this mean Andy Serkis will be doing a voice-over?
Note: Back when I posted this article, Joel Tobeck was cast as the young Smeagol, but now it seems more likely that Andy Serkis will play him.
Ok. This has been around for a while. This image is still being debated. All we know aboot it is that it's not Ian McKellan or Christopher Lee. That doesn't rule out their characters, though. It could be a stunt double or a dummy. We also know that Brad Douriff pretty much said that he and Saruman die at the end of The Two Towers to add a more dramatic ending. He neglected to mention that this would take away all the drama at the end of The Return of the King! Can someone remind me when exactly it was that either Gandalf or Saruman was impaled? There are a few discussions on this at the Imladris, Council of Elrond. Check them out.
Scoop brings us this new image of Helm's Deep. Nice! Finally, a Helm's
Deep photo with no construction equipment!
Stuff posted this nice pic of the Edoras set on Mt. Sunday.
This image of Aragorn was included along with two others we have seen before in the latest issue of CineBobine, a French magazine. This version is much clearer.
TORN posted this pic of the set in Hobbiton that was burned which many believe to be the Green Dragon Inn. It's obviously an old pic since the set was burned some time ago.
Some pics turned up of Ring wraiths at the Ford of Rivendell. Some suggested this meant a reshooting of the scene which could mean without Arwen.
New cast member! John Noble has been selected to play Denethor. He looks a bit young, though.
September 2000
The latest Vanity Fair pics had these new pics of Gandalf. He looks a bit younger in these than he did in the trailer. Could this be before he leaves after Bilbo's eleventy-first birthday? I like the staff anyway.
The latest Vanity fair pics are here. They managed to debunk the rumours that smoking would be taken out. I also really like the looks of these Hobbits.
New orc pic. Here's a great looking army of orcs. Check out the shield. Am I dreaming or is that a red eye on there? I'm liking the looks of it. Through some careful airbrushing, I've managed to almost realistically remove the crew members. Sorry to those people who got to have some little cameos, particularly the lady in white, but I just think it looks better without you. Nothing personal.
To start off the new fan art feature, here's a little
rendering I just did called Flame of the West. What do you think?
Stuff posted this new pic of Edoras. It's a bit blurry, but otherwise good.
October 2000
UPDATED! 10/1/00
Rosie Cotton cast! Sarah McLeod has been cast as Rosie Cotton. Will the relationship between her and Sam be built up more in the movie?
Who knows? I just hope she doesn't become a warrior princess!
UPDATE: I just found this at ask the insider. It's a better description of Rosie, though it doesn't answer the question about the
relationship:
Will the relationship between Sam Gamgee and Rosie Cotton be played up more in the films than it was in the books? And is there
any word on who is going to play the role?
Sydnee, Belleville, Illinois
Rosie Cotton is being played by actress Sarah McLeod. Costume designer Ngila Dickson describes Rosie as "gorgeous," and her costume features a lot of blue, which is
unusual for the mostly green- and brown-clad Hobbits. Frodo is the only
other Hobbit to go blue.
I just finished this new wallpaper. Whew! It was a grueling job, but I am pleased with the results. What do you think?
Something to look forward to: A spy who had recently flown over New Zealand sent me some of the pics he took. One of them is a very good overhead shot of the Edoras set! I'm still waiting to get the OK from him to post them, so be patient and enjoy my crappy wallpaper while you wait.
They're here! A spy had a chance to fly over New Zealand and view some of the sets sent me these images. You can see the one which is a very good look at the Edoras set. These images are copyrighted and you need his permission to use them. He mentioned that if anyone was interested in flying, to contact him.
Here are some nice images from TORN. On the left, the four hobbits stand in the Prancing Pony Inn. The original image was very dark, and you could barely see anything, so I brightened it up. The second is our first exclusive photo of Galadriel.
New set pic of Minis Tirith. I'm sure it will look really good when completed. I'm glad PJ is building actual sets instead of taking the digital shortcut. It adds to the realism.
TORN had a summary of all the movie news so far. This one, we've seen before, but it has a grander scale. You can see more of the environment in it.
Stuff posted an interview with extras on the Lord of the Rings set aboot their treatment. Included were these images.
November 2000
One of the spies over at TORN apparently captured a dagger prop from the movie. It's not much, but it gives an idea of what the weapons will be like. It looks like an orc dagger to me.
We all remember this, don't we? The still debated image of a wizard impaled on a spiked wheel. Well, if this callsheet proves to be real, it will also prove that the picture is real. I don't know. Something like this seems like it would be relatively easy to fake.
What could this mysterious ruined castle be? No one knows. I think it's most likely Minis Tirith after the battle, but I don't know.
Ian McKellan posted these new pics on his website. We have seen the one on the top right before. Now it looks more like actual footage. The old one looked, to me, like a John Howe painting. The one on the left appears to be Frodo, or perhaps Bilbo, and Gandalf sitting on a bench overlooking the party preparations. I imagine that the one on the bottom right is just a shot done by Sir Ian and not actual footage, but I could be wrong. You can see the pics at McKellan's
site, but mine are, of course, much larger.
Here is an image of some Ringwraiths that was posted an article from Total News Magazine. Interesting...
UPDATE: (Updated 11/2) I've had a few requests to "clean up" this image. I did as much as I could, but it is still a little hard to tell what it is. It doesn't really look like Ringwraiths. Could it be orcs?
Stuff posted this new picture of an orc. It looks like a new shot from that army of orcs photo a while back. This version is, of course, enlarged.
Also included in the article with the orcs running through the woods was this much clearer version of the Ring-wraiths charging a hobbit. Most people think this is the wraiths breaking through the Buckland Bridge since there is more than one Ring-wraith. Farmer Maggot has not yet been ruled out as another possibility.
In Ian McKellan's latest E Post update, he posted this new pic of the Fellowship crossing the mountains.
Scoop posted these great new set pics from the Hobbiton set. It appears to be a mill. Those hobbit hills in the background look familiar.
The New York Times posted some great new images of the Riders of Rohan. This particular image had something that caught my eye. I zoomed in as much as I could and attempted to clear the image up a bit, but it was unfortunately very blurry. Maybe this is enough to tell. Look at the figure on the white horse closest to you. Is it me, or does that REALLY look like Arwen? This concerns me. I fear the horrible rumours we've heard may be true after all.
UPDATE: Some recent things have been pointed out to me. I didn't even notice the smaller fugure on the same horse as "Arwen" with the big helmet on. I can think of no one else this could be but Gimli. The figure on the front of the horse must be Legolas. It was just a funny angle and really looked like Arwen. Sorry aboot the scare there.
The Evening Post posted these three new images. This was possibly done as revenge for not being invited to the press conference. Have a look at the color one. It's the Lord of the Nazgul's winged steed at the battle of the Pelenor Fields. You see that? It's a puppet! They're not using CGI for this scene! Let me just say awesome! Awesome! AWESOME!
Cirdan has scanned some even better versions of these three images. The only difference that I made was taking out the annoying giant red letters in the first one.
The NZ Herald posted this article along with this picture on the winged steed/oliphaunt from a recent picture. In this picture you can clearly tell that it is an oliphaunt and not a winged steed of the Nagul, as was thought before. It looks cool anyway. Really big
OK. That guy over at TORN got me all worked up over this. He said he went all out to find this article on Christopher Lee. He said that it included a picture of him sitting in front of Orthanc. This got me excited. I clicked the link and found an article with a small picture of Mr. Lee infront of a sketch of Orthanc. Well, that was disappointing and I considered it a waste of time to post the picture here. But how's aboot
this. As my site has no fans, you don't remember when I posted a fake picture of John Noble as Denethor. The image was so bad, that I didn't even bother posting it in the archives. (And I don't mean that in my sarcastic, low self-esteemed, make fun of my own website way!) Well, I got bored a few days ago, so I went and made a much better version. And here it is.
TORN posted a great new pic of the inside of the Prancing Pony. Is that Barliman there? It must be. This version of the image is larger, brighter and a little bit cleaned up.
Cirdan scanned some great new Gandalf pics. This one looks like him in Moria. You can see he staff is lit. There are apparently more pics here, but Cirdan's server seems to be down at the moment, so just enjoy this one for now.
UPDATE: Cirdan's server was fixed, but the only new image was this one of what looks like a Gondorian army. Worth the wait, though.
NZ OnFilm Magazine posted these great new images from the Wellington filming. I've cleaned them up a bit. I really like the one on the left. Is that a Ring-wraith under the tree? The atmosphere in that one looks great!
Cirdan's Site posted some great movie images. Here is the only new one. It looks great!
January 2001
USA Today apparently had a peinted article with an image of Aragorn standing near one of the stone trolls from The Hobbit. Can this be true? Does this mean that this scene is in the movie? Sounds good to me! However, the internet version had this image of Frodo. If you notice, he has the firey letters of the Ring reflected on his face. Pretty cool.
Sorry aboot not updating for a while. I've been away for the holiday.
I'm trying to make up for lost time as best I can. Here are three images I found and cleaned up. I really like these a lot. The first one is of Gandalf. Here we get another look at his staff. I just think this thing looks really wizardly and awesome. Now have a look at this picture of Frodo. That has to be Sting in his hands. I love it! That picture of orcs looks like another shot from the fight scene that was in the trailer. I love it!
Six days remain until the release of the new thatrical Lord of the Rings trailer. New Line Cinema has created this countdown banner which includes our first ever look at Hugo Weaving as Elrond! From what i remember of the old countdown banners of the Internet Preview, this could almost certainly mean that there will be a scene with Elrond in the new trailer! Hopefully, New Line will release more banners to give more hints as to what else we will get to see.
Five days are left until the release of the theatrical trailer with Thirteen Days and online. Here is the next countdown banner. Now, who's that I wonder? He looks like a dwarf, but I don't think it's Gimli. Could it be Gloin? He seems a bit young. I don't know.
Ugh! I'm an idiot! When I posted yesterday's banner, I guess I forgot to save the news, so it didn't show up.
I'm really sorry aboot that! I guess it's ok, since my site gets no visitors. Well, here's yesterday's. I don't think I can combine animations together because of the multiple frames, so I'll just post the stupid Arwen one in the archives later. I think we've seen enough of Arwen for awhile anyway.
Here's the 3 days banner with Arwen that never got posted because of my moronity.
Only two days left! I'm getting so excited! Here's the latest banner, and unless I'm dreaming, I do believe that's Theoden. Cool!
It's almost here! Only one day to go! And look. It's Frodo!
Well, the trailer is out in theaters now, and wouldn't you know it? Some kind soul bootlegged it for us. Click here to visit his site and try your luck with it. I say try your luck because I have, so far been unable to download it. I've heard reports that a lot of people are having the same problems. But, never fear. If you can't get it to work, you can view TORN's frame by frame analysis. It does look pretty cool, but the images are very low quality, so I'm going to wait until the trailer is officially released on the net before posting any images.
February 2001
Here are some bigger clearer versions of two new cast images from the official site. Things should be getting back to normal now that everything's updated up to the wazoo.
Huge news! This is really big. There is a new longer version available of the original internet preview! It apparently has loads of new footage including Sean Astin interviews and footage of a troll runnning. You can see it here. Of course, there is a downside. In order to view it, you need to download Realplayer. I know what you may be thinking, "So what? I downloaded Quicktime for the first one." Well, this is different. While Quciktime is free, Realplayer costs to download. So, you may only want to view the trailer if you already have Realplayer or you're willing to spend the money. But, whatever you do, do it soon. This may be gone soon.
March 2001
The Official Site had an article with this new image of the Council of Elrond. The figure mostly covered by the white veil on the left looks like Gandalf to me. Next to him is Legolas. Who the other two are is anyone's guess. The elf-looking guy next to Legolas could be Glorfindel, but I have no idea who the bearded one is. Gloin? Doubtfull. Probably just someone put there to take up space.
On a Side Note: My New Images page is finished. Just ignore the (Coming Soon) thing. I've tried to get rid of that, but good old website wanted to be really creative and not let me do that, so I'll just have to leave it for now.
A magazine called White Dwarf brings us some great new images. The frist is of Saruman. It kind of looks like you can see some of the "many colours" in his robe, but I'm not positive. The next is some shot of one of the Nazgul at night. Spooky. The last is yet another new image of the Hobbits on Weathertop.
The official site released the first official teaser poster!
Cirdan came through once again with some great new images. They are of Boromir and Aragorn. This pretty much makes up for the whole hardly seeing Boromir at all thing.
Dark Horizons Had two new versions of teaser posters. The first is pretty much the same one we saw before, but it's color is different. I like the second one better, but I guess New Line couldn't decide.
April 2001
A french site called Chez and the Official Site bring us a bunch of new cast pictures. Here we finally get to see Isildur, Gilgalad, Haldir, Eowyn, and Grima! There is also a new one of Aragorn, and a great looking one of Legolas! Huzah! Jackpot!
Well, well. We hadn't seen Isildur at all until that last pic of him. And now we get to see him in action! I don't think he's after Sauron yet as his sword doesn't look broken.
I just recieved info on this song by a huge Tolkien fan! Go here to listen to it. Scroll down to where it says Fellowship, then download away! I heard it myself, and it's actually very good! Thanks Bjorn!
A Brazillian magazine called Veja had an article with two new images. One is of Galadriel and the other of the Hobbits. I don't speak portugese, but I'm pretty sure this is the scene where they are introduced to her.
Alright. This is late, but there's an explanation here. You can probably tell one of the reasons just by looking at the huge amount of images here I had to clean. Anyway, here they are at last.
This one is from Ain't it Cool News. It's a really great-looking one of Gimli.
These were scanned by Cirdan. He always does such a great job, but they still needed some cleaning.
These came from a huge lot at TORN. There were others, but I didn't think they were very good. These seem to show that Gandalf's fireworks will be in and maybe the Houses of Healing. Yay!
Expressen Had an article with two new images. The first, although it swings more in the Xenarwen direction, looks really cool and elvish. The second is of Elrond and Arwen.
